Migrating Birds
Every spring and fall a flock of gulls congregate in a large circle in the athletic field of the Jefferson High School in Bloomington Minnesota. We have observed this phenomenon for many years and the circle of migrating birds is located at approximately the same place in the athletic field year after year. The number of birds also seems to remain similar over those years. They will stay for several days and then leave to continue their long journey. A search of the Internet indicates they are likely Franklin Gulls which nest in Canada and most of them winter in Peru and Chili. It seems strange that these gulls would make a stop at this particular high school athletic field that is located in a second ring suburb of Minneapolis year after year!
