What Goes Around comes Around

Sometimes it seems we are chasing our own tail. I started a project to excerpt a short story from a novel I published ten years ago. The novel “Finding the Way; From Prussia to a Prairie Homestead,” is about a young Prussian man that immigrated to America and spent seven years wondering over a large portion of the evolving country in his quest to homestead a piece of land he could call his own. The short story excerpt is the first three chapters of the novel that deals with his early plan to emigrant and a family event that put his plans in doubt. This part of the story took place in a small city named Flatow. I decided I would use some pictures of nineteenth century Flatow in the short story. In particular I wanted a picture of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Flatow built in the early 1800’s and which still stands today being used as a Catholic church. I went to google to search for a picture and as expected found numerous albums of Flatow photos. Among them was a picture of the church I wanted to use in the short story. I clicked on the picture to investigate the photo’s origin and background information. Imagine my surprise when the source cited turned out to be the novel “Finding the Way; From Prussia to a Prairie Homestead;” author Alfred Wellnitz . Clicking on the source identification took me to a web site my niece designed for me ten years ago and I have not looked at for years. Neither has anyone else but google knew it was there and with a large set of Flatow pictures.

The short story named “Auf wiedersehen Prussia 1871” has been completed and includes three photos of nineteenth century Flatow. A Kindle version of the story can be found on Amazon:

It can also be seen under the short story heading in this blog.
